A: about

Alex

I’m Alex, a sailor and writer and very amateurish photographer currently working with my boyfriend, Nathan, in the Med. I cover all things sailing – racing, cruising, our occasional mishaps and the places sailing has taken us over the last few years. Follow along for travel guides, reviews and advice.

Past

I’m a 28-year-old who swapped office life for bluer pastures. Raised in the British countryside, I spent four years at University, gained a Master’s degree and had a brief stint in a London 9-to-5. In 2024 everything changed as I flew to Greece to gain more sailing experience. In the last two years I’ve gained my Yachtmaster Coastal certificate, completed over 30 weeks of flotilla in Greece, sailed in the Caribbean and recently joined a beautiful Oyster 495.

Present

After a long and lovely off season spent with both our families, Nathan and I are back in the Oyster family. We worked on our first Oyster in 2024 and are excited for the season ahead in the Balearics on our second Oyster 495. We will be doing a combination of charters, private boss trips and fingers crossed for a regatta.

Future

We’re already gearing up for the ARC+ at the end of this Med season. I’m still keen on upgrading to Yachtmaster Offshore and get my licence commercially endorsed like Nathan, and we’re both keen to give the YM Ocean theory course a crack. Nathan plans to upgrade his engineering qualifications and we’d both like to do some more Scuba Diving.

South African & British

Having been attached at the hip since our first job together in April 2024, we usually work with Nathan as Skipper and me as Mate (and Chef!). We’re a great team that complement each others strengths and obviously love working together. Check out testimonials from previous guests and clients.
